Clearwater Man Finds Live Grenade on Water Heater

A Clearwater man found what appeared to be a live grenade sitting atop a water heater at an old family home Friday.

According to police, the man took a picture of the grenade before carrying it outside the house at 2956 Catherine Drive. He then showed the picture to Clearwater Fire & Rescue Station 49 personnel to see if it was real.

Officials sent the Tampa Police Bomb Squad to the home to retrieve and properly dispose of the grenade. Police said the man found the grenade at the home where his father used to live. The father, who died a few years ago, was a former member of the military.
