Coast Guard Rescues Boaters Near Clearwater

Coast Guard crews rescued four adults and a child after their boat started taking on water about 15 miles west of Clearwater Saturday afternoon.

Coast Guard crews rescued four adults and a child after their boat started taking on water about 15 miles west of Clearwater on Saturday afternoon.

A crew aboard a 45-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Sand Key arrived on scene around 12:50 p.m., brought aboard all five people and towed their boat, according to Coast Guard officials.

The rescued boat and boaters are being taken to Clearwater Harbor.

The boaters were wearing their life jackets. No injuries are reported.

"We understand things happen and it was good to see they had some safety equipment aboard to assist them in case the situation deteriorated," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Brittan Duhon.
