Eco Fun Fest Spotlights Positive Environmental Solutions For Pinellas Residents
The first-ever event will feature presentations, exhibits, vendors and a Touch-a-Truck experience.

CLEARWATER, FL – In an effort to encourage residents to take part in helping the environment, the Pinellas County Solid Waste department will open its doors for a festival.
The department will host its first annual Eco Fun Festival on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bridgeway Acres Commons on the grounds of the solid waste facility at 11418 34th St. N. in Clearwater. The event is free as well as parking.

The family-friendly event will feature tours of Pinellas County’s Solid Waste Facility, educational and environmental presentations, environmentally-themed exhibitors, equipment demonstrations, giveaways, food vendors and its popular Touch-a-Truck exhibit. The festival will take place in the newly designated Birdgeway Acres Commons, a dedicated green space in the facility with a park-like atmosphere.
According to Pinellas County, the goal of the Eco Fun Festival is to showcase the many options residents have to make a positive environmental changes in their lifestyle, homes and community. The combined effort can have a big impact on preserving the local environment.

Educational opportunities at the Eco Fun Festival will include: today’s recycling system, composting, using rain barrels to supplement watering landscape, sustainable gardening techniques, understanding the watershed system in Pinellas County, protecting waterways and marine animals, energy efficiency for the home and more.
The Touch-a-Truck display will include the Walking Excavator, a multi-legged, backhoe-type machine used to excavate and clear vegetation. Other equipment on display will include a Pinellas County Mosquito Control airboat and fogger tuck, Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s marine rescue vehicle, a Sunstar ambulance, an aircraft firefighting vehicle, bucket trucks, dump trucks and more.
