Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo is available for private consults and a public talk about holistic health practices between May 2 and 4.

A visiting doctor of Tibetan medicine is accepting appointments for one-on-one health advice Thursday and Friday.

Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo follows a visit in Dunedin with a public talk Saturday at Lifeworks Yoga in Clearwater, hosted by Dunedin Harvest Food & Garden Co-op.

During her hour-long consults, Wangmo evaluates a patient's physical and mental condition and makes recommendations for diet and lifestyle changes as well as any herbal supplements she believes will help bring balance to the individual.

Wangmo, who directs the American branch of the Shang Shung Institute in Conway, MA, is among the first in the United States to open a program exclusively rooted in traditional Tibetan medicine, an ancient and holistic practice that seeks to diagnose and treat chronic ailments and diseases in light of external factors such as diet and behavior.

Tibetan medicine is rooted in Buddhist philosophies, in which the "body/mind relationship is interconnected to all phenomena," according to the Tibetan Medical School website.

"Dr. Wangmo is one of the few Tibetan Doctors in the West and loves Dunedin with her hopes on opening a Tibetan health clinic here in the future," writes Courtney King, who is helping organize the doctor's visit.
