YMCA of the Suncoast Host Free Healthy Kids Day

Events around the county aim to inspire more children to keep minds and bodies active.

CLEARWATER, FL – The YMCA of the Suncoast will host an event this weekend they hope will remind children to keep up with healthy activities while they are on summer vacation.

On Saturday, April 30, eight area locations will host events for YMCA Healthy Kids Day. This is part of a national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, featuring games, healthy cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts, and other events to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.

According to the YMCA, research has shown that without access to out-of-school physical and educational activities, children fall behind academically. Children also gain weight twice as fast during summer than during the school year.

Local partners, such as Publix, will be at all of the area locations participating in Healthy Kids Day. The Suncoast locations are:

  • Citrus County Auditorium, 3610 S. Florida Ave., Inverness from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Clearwater, Pier 60 during the Kids’ Fishing Rodeo from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Greater Palm Harbor YMCA, 1600 16th St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Greater Ridgecrest YMCA, 1801 119th St. N., Largo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Hernando County YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill from 9 a.m. to noon
