Dunedin Dining: Taco Baby, Hopscotch Cafe

Here's some Dunedin restaurants that are worth checking out.

DUNEDIN, FL -- As the saying goes, sometimes good things come in small packages.

Traci and Kurt Ferguson can attest to the accuracy of the adage. Theirs may very well be the tiniest taqueria in the state.

The couple converted a standalone Chase ATM on Main Street Dunedin into Taco Baby, a taco stand that may be small in size but doesn't skimp when it comes to flavor.

Located at 235 Main St., the 8- by 8-foot taco stand (just large enough for two people to squeeze in) is outfitted with everything needed to prepare fresh food -- a three-compartment sink, cooler, hand-wash sink, oven, rotisserie and prep area.

Taco Baby features made-from-scratch offerings including their popular Al Pastor and Chicken Tinga tacos.

Hopscotch Cafe

The New Year brought another Dunedin eatery that's causing a stir with foodies.

Hopscotch Cafe at 1006 Broadway St. in Dunedin is a charcuterie. For those unfamiliar with the term, charcuterie is a type of cooking devoted to prepared meat products, such as bacon, ham, sausage, terrines, galantines, ballotines, pâtés, and confit, primarily from pork.

It's the creation of Oakley and Lori Carlson who made their way to the Sunshine State from the not-so-sunny environs of Seattle to open the vintage music-themed eatery.

Here, you can order a Stairway to Heaven (turkey, Black Forest ham, bacon, Swiss, white cheddar, greens, tomato and mayo on toasted sourdough), the Fly Me to the Moon (Prosciutto di Parma, Serrano ham, hot Sopressata, fresh Mozzarella, toasted red tomato, arugula, Calabrian pepper spread, Bblsamic and EVOO on a toasted La Segunda baguette) and Kiss the Sky (ham, turkey, Swiss, tomato, cucumber and mayo on marble rye).

You'll also find an eclectic selection of beer and wine including IPAs from Angry Chair Brewing, Maui Brewing and UFO that can be enjoyed while listening to acoustic selections by local singers/songwriters.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
