When deputies arrived, Bell was not at her home. She was picked up later and interviewed by detectives. She told them that she and her boyfriend got into a fight in her bedroom. She told him to leave her home and her boyfriend struck her in the face. She left the bedroom and retrieved a gun from her purse. Bell admitted to detectives that she was "mad" and her intent was to shoot her boyfriend.
She said her boyfriend tried to shut her out of the bedroom, but she forced her way in. Bell said her boyfriend then placed her in a choke hold, so she shot him once in his left abdomen. She said she then left the house with her 18-month-old daughter without calling 911.
