Joy of Sharing
A six-year-old first grader at Garrison Jones Elementary chose a cereal drive as a gifted class project for Dunedin Cares Food Pantry.
JOY OF SHARING
Iliana Gorshe, a six-year-old first grader at Garrison Jones Elementary had heard that many people in the Dunedin and Clearwater area were in need of food. She wanted to do something about this and inspired by her parents and teacher she decided she was going to collect cereal boxes and donate them to Dunedin Cares Food Pantry. Her goal was to collect 80 boxes of cereal, an amount any six-year-old would consider great. If there ever was an opportunity to dream bold, this surely was.
So, for this six-year-old February 1, 2019 was no ordinary day. It was the day she was to visit the food pantry to find out the results of her project. Well, she succeeded in collecting almost 8 times her goal amount, 605 boxes of cereal and $304.00 in donations.

Dunedin Cares Food Pantry recently started a program to make our children more aware of the many people in our community who are in need of food. Many groups, such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and a class from the Academie DaVinci School, have spent time visiting the pantry. We want to expand our children’s awareness of the challenges faced by many of our neighbors. To teach them it is not only the homeless that need help, but many times it is people like their grandmother or grandfather, neighbors and even their classmates, said Ed Hughes President of Dunedin Cares.
“What if?” Well, it is not too late for us older adults to be an igniting force for our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and the youth in our community. Perhaps they won’t like us having to ask, “Why not?”
Dunedin Cares Food Pantry, located at 1630 Pinehurst Road, is open for food distribution Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10 AM to 12 PM. Monetary donation may be mailed to Dunedin Cares, P. O. Box 1435, Dunedin, Fl. 34697.
