Nature Playground at Weaver Park Comes Kid-Approved

Eight-year-olds love it. Grandmothers do, too. The new nature playground at Weaver Park opens Thursday for a child near you.

The best way to describe the new nature-themed playground at Weaver Park in Dunedin:

"Amazing," Aidan Henderson, 8, said Wednesday, a day before city officials celebrate its grand opening. Aidan came to the park with his grandmother and younger brother Austin, 4, after a morning at the bowling alley.

The playground is designed with accessibility in mind for children of differing physical abilities and features pervious turf, faux wood slides, giant insect rides, and educational signs. It was made possible because of a $200,000 donation from Nan and Tom Moffatt, made through the Dunedin Youth Guild in February.

City officials celebrate the Dunedin Youth Guild playground's opening with a ribbon cutting at Weaver Park on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m.

Weaver Park is at 1248 Bayshore Blvd., Dunedin.
