Demand for food at Dunedin Cares has increased by 25 percent since the onset of the coronavirus, and the local not-for-profit has stepped up its efforts to serve local families.

Last year, it distributed more than 125 tons of food to families with children, single parents, grandparents, seniors, military veterans, unemployed and homeless residents. Dunedin Cares distributed 31 percent of its food to families with children under the age of 19 and another 30 percent to residents between the ages of 50 and 70.

To make Pearly’s Beach Eats “10 – 10 For Dunedin” a “fun” raising opportunity, the restaurant has recruited “Cele-BEER-ty” servers, local notables who will welcome patrons and serve beer and wine, including Dunedin Mayor Julie Ward Bujalski who is volunteering from 5 to 7 p.m.

“Dunedin Cares Food Pantry is so grateful to be partnering with Pearly’s Beach Eats for this fun and local fundraiser. Our pantry slogan has always been 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors' and having the opportunity to work side by side with our neighbors for our neighbors is truly a blessing. We hope to see you there,” said Joe Mackin, president of Dunedin Cares Food Pantry.
