Pinellas, Hillsborough County Roads Renamed For Fallen Officers

TAMPA BAY, FL – On June 18, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill renaming roads in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties in honor of three law enforcement officials who died in the line of duty this year.

In Pinellas County, a portion of County Road 611 that was previously designated East Lake Road between Forelock and Keystone roads has been named for Pinellas County sheriff's Deputy Michael J. Magli.

Magli died Feb 17 on East Lake Road when he struck by a drunk driver while laying down a tire deflation device on the road to stop the reckless driver.

In Hillsborough County, a portion of State Road 60 between Interstate 75 and Philip Lee Boulevard on the west side of Brandon has been named for Hillsborough County sheriff's Sgt. Brian LaVigne.

Lavigne died Jan. 11 when his cruiser was struck by a man attempted to elude sheriff's deputies.

Also in Hillsborough County, Interstate 275 between East Sligh Avenue and East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard has been named for Tampa police Officer Jesse Madsen. This is the section of road where Madsen was hit and killed March 9 by a wrong-way drunk driver in an effort to stop the driver and protect other motorists.
