Purple Heart Day in Dunedin — Plus: Dirt, Diapers, Gas
What do dirt, diapers and gas all have in common with Dunedin's Purple Heart Recognition Day Ceremony? Find out here!

PURPLE HEART CEREMONY
You'll be glad you made time for the Purple Heart Recognition Day Ceremony this morning at Purple Heart Park (by Strachan's Ice Cream downtown). Dunedin's Aug. 7 ceremony also falls on the anniversary of the Guadalcanal Campaign, the United States' first offensive action in World War II. Two Dunedin residents, George Nigro and John Tornga, recently found a local veteran survivor of that campaign. Hear veteran Bob Fincher tell his story.
DUNEDIN TEACHER REMEMBERED
Teacher Charlotte Huff of Our Lady of Lourdes School may have died of brain cancer several years ago, but one of her students is ensuring her memory lives forever. Aspiring Eagle Scout Kameron Madley, 17, raised $1,700 with a few donation jars outside of some recent Sunday Masses at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He just purchased $1,500 worth of dirt, mulch, plants and garden supplies to construct a butterfly garden on the campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9.
