FDOT will host an Alternate U.S. 19 Corridor Workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hale Senior Activity Center.

DUNEDIN, FL -- The Florida Department of Transportation wants to pick your brains. FDOT will host an Alternate U.S. 19 Corridor Studies Alternatives Workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hale Senior Activity Center, 330 Douglas Ave., Dunedin.

Over the past 18-plus months, FDOT, in conjunction with Forward Pinellas, has collected technical data and user comments on how Alternate U.S. 19 functions. Now, the project teams will present their draft improvement concepts for review and input.

The teams will present short- and long-term alternatives for improving the Alternate US 19 Corridor from Park Street North to the Pasco County Line. The workshop will be in an open house format with an introductory video available to educate attendees about the project and next steps.

All attendees will have an opportunity to provide input about the proposed improvements, and the study team will be available to answer questions.

The purpose of this workshop is to give the community an opportunity to review and comment on the range of options that have been developed in an effort to establish a more walkable, bicycle-friendly, urban environment along Alternate U.S. 19.

Spanning nearly 38 miles, Alternate U.S. 19 is the longest roadway in Pinellas County. It connects the cities of Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Clearwater, Largo, Seminole, St. Petersburg and unincorporated Palm Harbor.

Forward Pinellas and Creative Pinellas are looking ways to transform Alternate 19 into a cultural corridor that will spark urban revitalization and promote tourism (see related story).
