Video: Jupiter, Venus 'Dance' Over Dunedin Causeway

A Patch reader shared a video of the celestial light show.

Tampa Bay area residents who have looked skyward during the evenings over the last few weeks have likely noticed an incredible show going on right before their eyes.

Throughout the past few weeks, Venus and Jupiter have been performing a “dance” of sorts, coming incredibly close together in the night sky. The two planets also enjoyed a few cameo appearances from the moon.

Earlier in the month of June, the two planets and the moon formed “a bright isosceles triangle in the sunset sky,” NASA wrote on its website. That triangle rearranged itself the next evening, prompting NASA officials to say, “Never has a geometry lesson been so beautiful.”

Patch reader Doug Rohloff caught some of the dance on video as the moon reached its near-full peak Tuesday night. He shot “in between the clouds” on the Dunedin Causeway and sent us this video to share.
