A trip to jail most likely put a damper on the Fourth of July holiday weekend for one East Lake resident.

Pinellas County Marine Patrol Deputies arrested Carmello T. Depaolo, 46, after they say he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Depaolo was piloting a boat near the Memorial Causeway in Clearwater at about 11:37 p.m. on Saturday, July 6 when deputies pulled the boat over. Deputies asked him to take a breathalyzer test but he refused, according to an arrest affidavit. The affidavit described Depaolo as having red, bloodshot and glassy eyes and his breath smelled like alcohol.
