East Lake Fire Rescue Releases Annual Report

"It's nice to look back in summary and see the things you accomplished as a department and keep focused on the good things that we do," said East Lake Fire Rescue Chief Tom Jamison.

East Lake Fire Rescue released its first ever annual report on June 25. The report gives an overview of 2012.

"It's nice to look back in summary and see the things you accomplished as a department and keep focused on the good things that we do," said East Lake Fire Rescue Chief Tom Jamison, who compiled the report with the help of Assistant Chief Jason Gennaro and Office Manager Marianne Wayne.

"Our intention is to do one of these every calendar year," said Jamison.

The report describes the fire department's service area, which encompasses 33-square-miles and includes Palm Harbor, parts of unincorporated Oldsmar and Tarpon Springs. The total population exceeds 30,000, according to the report.

East Lake Fire Commissioners were impressed with the report, which Jamison presented at the June 25 board meeting.

"It's a wonderful report," said East Lake Fire Commissioner Flo Galloway.

Financial details and descriptions of safety campaigns are included in the report along with results of the department's quality assurance surveys that are sent out each month to a sampling of residents who used the fire department's services.

The report also provides interesting details about the types of incidents that firefighters responded to in 2012.

Firefighters responded to 2,723 service calls in 2012. The average "on-scene time" was five minutes and four seconds.

Here's a breakdown of the types of calls-

  • Medical: 1,924
  • Vehicle Crashes: 258
  • Fire Alarms: 193
  • Miscellaneous: 142
  • Structure Fires: 95
  • Other Fire Rescue Responses: 89
