East Lake Single Car Accident Kills Passenger, Injures Driver
Police say it's unknown why the driver initially lost control. His passenger, also from New Port Richey, was killed in the accident.

EAST LAKE, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a deadly car crash early Sunday morning, according to a release. The single-car accident also seriously injured one person.
Police say it was around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when a 25-year-old New Port Richey man driving a Ford Focus on East Lake Road lost control around Pasado Drive. The reason he lost control is unknown, police say.
The car went off the road, then the driver over-corrected, ending up on the other side of the road. It hit a light pole and came to a stop after hitting a tree.

Both the driver and passenger, whose name has not been released pending next of kin notification, were seriously injured. The passenger, also of New Port Richey, later died of their injuries from the crash.
Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts.
