Elderly Man Shot Self After Killing Neighbor, Deputies Say

Oldsmar, FL — Two elderly men are dead following an incident in Oldsmar Saturday evening.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out to Pelican Drive East around 7:58 p.m. When they arrived, they found Edwin H. Barthold, 80, shot to death outside his home.

Barthold, an email from the agency said, was “the victim of murder.”

Detectives identified Steven Larson, 75, as the suspect and went to his nearby home. They found Larson dead inside his Pelican Drive East home. He had suffered “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the email said.

Detectives did not say if the two men had an ongoing dispute or what might have prompted the shooting.
