Palm Harbor Motorcyclist Killed in Crash

This was the second deadly crash involving a Palm Harbor motorcyclist in one week.

A Palm Harbor man was killed late Monday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed into two trees on Belcher Road.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) investigators say Joshua Edgar Lane, 28, was driving his 2011 Kawk motorcycle at a high rate of speed in the left lane of Belcher Road, just north of Alderman Road around 5:50 p.m.

The motorcycle approached the rear of 2007 Ford SUV driven by Allison Kahn-Bens, 60, of Tarpon Springs, which was also driving northbound in the left lane. Lane tried to slow the motorcycle down to avoid a collision, but the bike ended up hitting the rear of the SUV.

This caused Lane to lose control of the motorcycle. It traveled onto the median and hit two trees, then ended up in the southbound lane of Belcher Road. Lane died at the scene of the crash, according to investigators. He was wearing a helmet.

This was the second deadly crash involving a Palm Harbor motorcyclist in one week. Last Monday, Sunstar Paramedic Christopher Jennings, 33, was killed when his motorcycle hit the side of a SUV at the intersection of Keene Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard.
