Work on Coast to Coast Connector Trail Begins

250-mile long trail will stretch from St. Petersburg to Titusville.

EAST LAKE, FL – The Florida Department of Transportation began construction on Pinellas County’s segment of the Coast to Coast Connector trail in the East Lake area this week.

The segment will close a gap in what will be a 250-mile long bicycle and pedestrian trail that starts with the Pinellas Trail in St. Petersburg and ends with the A. Max Brewer Causeway Bridge in Titusville on the east coast.

The project, funded by the State of Florida, is expected to cost more than $5.5 million.

Trail construction will start at an existing section of the Pinellas Trail near East Lake and Keystone roads on the south side of Keystone and will extend toward the Hillsborough County line. It will then continue north through the Brooker Creek Preserve to the Pasco County line.

This year-long project was identified as a critical link in Pinellas County’s connection to the Coast to Coast Connector across central Florida. When Department of Transportation crews finish construction, it will be added to the Pinellas Trail Network.
