53 single men arrested by FBI, Homeland Security officers in Tampa Bay metro area for asking single women out on dates.
Tampa, FL; 53 single men were arrested by undercover FBI and Homeland Security officers over the weekend of September 19-20 for asking multitudes of single women out on dates, setting a new record for the number of arrests in the region under new Federal laws recently passed. The men ranged from 22 to 45 years of age and the women ranged between 23 and 47 years of age. Several men resisted and were immediately tasered. The arrests took place throughout the bay area, some at the beaches, 27 of them were at multiple different bars throughout the metro area, and 9 at nightclubs that had just re-opened.
Several of the men claimed they were being polite, but were still arrested; most of the officers reportedly were overheard saying; "We don't know what country you think you're from that lets you just approach women and ask them out on a date, but in the United States of America, it absolutely does not fly at all. You need to let the women approach you first and let the women make the first move! It's Federal law in this country. New Federal laws, new Federal legislation, just recently passed within the past few months." Some of the women were also arrested for obstruction when they tried to intervene.
The men have been charged with felony courting and pursuing of female persons and have been transported via JPATS to Federal lockup near Washington, DC to await trial and sentencing.
