Caxambas: Fine Dining at Fiddler's Creek

Delicious Pre-Fixe Options for $35

We recently moved to Naples Florida, a mere 2700 miles away from Los Angeles. I was reticent to leave my beloved hometown, after spending most of my adult life there, aside from five years up at UC Santa Barbara where I went to school.

Would there be a dearth of restaurant options available? Would I find the food choices of Floridians paling by comparison to that which I have experienced in Los Angeles?

The answer is no. We’ve enjoyed many fine restaurants in the Naples area over several years of visiting here. But this was the first time we got to go to Caxambas on our own for Valentine’s Day. What a delightful dining experience.

Innovation reigns at this fine-dining establishment. Unlike many progressive restaurants in major cities sporting open ceilings, loud crowds and obvious hardware, here at Caxambas, you can step back in time and enjoy the rich, relaxed atmosphere of a private club hailing back to the robust times of the 1920s.

I was particularly enchanted by the Great Gatsby-style décor inside, showcasing elegant antiques, hand-forged iron and glass over-door transoms and massive bronze chandeliers.

The menu rotates on a regular basis, which keeps things fresh and interesting, but we were here for their three-course pre fixe special for $35.

First course included a Golden Beet Carpaccio, with my dining companion enjoying her Seared Yellow fin Tuna. Both were delightful, visually appealing, and with enough innovation to wow our west-coast palates.

Second course included my choice of Seared Norwegian Salmon, with my pal electing the Duo of Pork, both of which seemed too pretty to eat. Again, we were impressed. And there’s more?

We were already full when dessert came, the globe of chocolate stuffed with pistachio ice cream, and my favorite, crème brûlée.

If you are in the Fiddler’s Creek area of Naples, and have the opportunity to visit this restaurant with one of the members of the Fiddler’s Creek community, you will be treated to an extravaganza that you will never forget.
