Fort Myers Police ID Officer Critically Hurt In Shooting: Report

FORT MYERS, FL — A Fort Myers police officer who was critically hurt in a shooting Saturday night has been identified. Shots rang out around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Flint Drive, the News-Press reported.

Police wrote in an Instagram post that the officer was in "critical yet stable condition" and needed "continued prayers." He was identified by media outlets Sunday as Adam Jobbers-Miller.

"Thank you for the overwhelming response of kind words and help from multiple agencies during this tragic time," the post said.

City police Chief Derrick Diggs said one suspect has been taken into custody, the newspaper reported. There is no threat to the public.

Gov. Rick Scott tweeted that he offered local law enforcement agencies any resources they need.

"Our law enforcement makes unimaginable sacrifices every day to keep our families and communities safe. We are praying for the brave officer shot tonight," he wrote.

Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

Jobbers-Miller reportedly volunteered with a fire company in Wayne, New Jersey, before joining Fort Myers police in 2015, the News-Press reported.
