No more bicycle riding in Downtown Fort Myers.
No more skateboarding, bicycle riding, scooter riding, or rollerblading, on streets and sidewalks, in Downtown Fort Myers.
Fort Myers, FL; Cyclists, skateboarders, and rollerbladers who once enjoyed riding through the Downtown area of Fort Myers will need to stay completely out of the Downtown area on their wheels. That is correct, the Fort Myers Police Department has banned all bicycle riding, skateboarding, scooter riding, and rollerblading from the entire Downtown district. You can not operate a bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or rollerskates/rollerblades on the street, and you can not operate them on the sidewalk, either. The entire area bordered by US 41/Cleveland Avenue on the west, Martin Luther King Jr Blvd on the south, Fowler Street on the east, and the south shore of the Caloosahatchee River on the north, is an official No-Ride Zone as enforced by the police. You must be either on foot or in an automobile within the No-Ride Zone, there's no way around it. Cyclists will need to park outside the Downtown area and enter on foot. All violators will be arrested for reckless operation and trespass by vehicle and will face up to sixty-five (65) years in Federal prison. The Fort Myers Police Department will very shortly begin removing all bicycle racks from the Downtown area.
