Paraprofessionals assist instructional staff in meeting student academic needs and achieving the objectives of the school they work at. Suncoast Credit Union Foundation provides the scholarships so that these valued employees can lead their own classrooms as teachers. In the last three years Suncoast has provided $150,000 in scholarships for high school seniors and paraprofessionals committed to becoming teachers for the School District of Lee County.
While studying, scholarship winners are eligible for paid internships with the District. The scholarship must be renewed for the second year of school. Upon graduation, the recipients pledge to teach in the District for at least three years.
