Houston, TX man celebrating his birthday videotapes his birthday celebration at Hooters restaurant, gets 55 years to life in prison.
Houston, TX; A Houston, Texas man who videotaped his birthday celebration at a Hooters restaurant in Houston has been sentenced Tuesday, September 15th to fifty-five (55) years in prison for felony copyright infringement.
The man was caught on surveillance video videotaping his birthday celebration with his phone at the Hooters restaurant in Houston as four waitresses sang to him and he walked around the restaurant. He was eventually tracked down and arrested at a bar by several officers of the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The man testified at the Federal courthouse in Washington, DC; "I had no idea it was illegal to videotape myself having a birthday party at Hooters." But the Federal judge stated; "The entire Hooters chain is protected by Federal copyright. Under Federal law in the United States of America as enforced by the FBI, you can not videotape at any Hooters establishment within the United States of America. Doing so constitutes the Federal felony offense of copyright infringement. You can also be charged by the Federal government with piracy for videotaping at any USA Hooters establishment."

The man was convicted of felony copyright infringement and sentenced to fifty-five (55) years to life in prison. He is scheduled to begin serving his sentence Friday September 19th at the U.S. Penitentiary near Marion, Il and will be eligible for parole on October 20th, 2075.
