2 Hurt in Motorcycle Crash in Gulfport

The two men were traveling on Gulfport Boulevard "at a high rate of speed" when they lost control of their bikes, authorities said.

Two people were hurt when their motorcycles crashed late Wednesday night in Gulfport, authorities said.

The two riders were traveling east on Gulfport Boulevard at a high rate of speed as they approached the curve at 59th Street, according to Gulfport Police. 

One of them, a Suzuki driven by Marcello Ciampolillo of Belleair, slid out of control. That caused the driver of the other Yamaha motorcycle, David Heyveld of Largo, to also slide out of control.

Both men struck the south curb of Gulfport Boulevard, east of 59th street and suffered "significant injuries," according to Sgt. Robert L. Burkhart.

They were taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where they were in stable condition, authorities said.
