Drug-Laced Gummies Send Boca Ciega High Students To Hospital

Initial reports indicate that up to seven students may have eaten the gummies and four were reportedly hospitalized.

GULFPORT, FL — Four Boca Ciega High School students have been taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital as a precaution following the appearance of drug-laced gummie worms on the Gulfport campus Monday.

According to Pinellas County Schools, a student brought the candy in Monday and passed pieces around. All told, seven students are believed to have ingested the candies. Parents of students were were hospitalized have been notified.

"The school is reviewing the incident to understand what happened and is working with the Gulfport Police Department as they investigate the incident," the school district said in a statement.

It remains unclear what the candy was laced with. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made and the incident remained under investigation. The condition of the students hospitalized has not yet been released.
