Driver Identified in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

A St. Petersburg resident was killed in the Gulfport accident.

GULFPORT, FL — As Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate a fatal Tuesday morning crash in Gulfport, they’ve released some details about the accident.

According to the agency, Shawn Lynch, 43, of St. Petersburg was driving a 2004 Infinity FX35 westbound on 18th Avenue South around 3:35 a.m. Jan. 19, approaching 49th Street South.

“The driver, traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed over 49th Street, failing to stop at the stop sign,” an email from the sheriff’s office said. “The driver then drove over the sidewalk onto a grassy area on the west side of 49th Street, alongside Tangerine Avenue.”

The Infinity continued through the grass and struck a tree. The impact, the sheriff’s office said, caused the car to overturn.

Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tangerine Avenue between 49th Street South and 51st Street South reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
