‘Gecko Con’ chosen as 2018 Gecko Ball Theme
Gulfport's yearlong celebration of all things gecko will celebrate pop culture from superheroes to cult characters.

GULFPORT, FL – Next year, another ‘con’ will join the various comic book and pop culture conventions in the Tampa Bay area.
Organizers of Gulfport’s annual Gecko Ball announced Gecko Con was the winning theme of the 2018 Gecko Ball. The 10th Annual Gecko Ball will take place on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom.
Gecko Con was voted the clear winner by the public over the other themes up for consideration: Cirque du Gecko, Geckos on Broadway, Rock and Roll Geckos and Rocky Horror Gecko Show.

Next year’s theme will be a celebration of superheroes, villains, cult characters, fantasy locales and more from comics, TV shows, movies, books, anime and other media in pop culture. Gecko Con will allow for a wide range of costumes, Ball decorations, music and refreshments.
One of the social events of the year in Gulfport, the Gecko Ball offers a silent auction, the live auction of artist-created geckos, the coronation of the new Gecko Queen and more. The ball’s theme also extends to other events throughout the Gecko season.

The Gecko Ball is one of four whimsical Gecko-themed events that take place each year. Along with the ball, the Art Gecko Show and the Gecko Crawl leads up to GeckoFest, Gulfport’s annual free street festival.
All gecko events are sponsored by the Gulfport Merchants Association, and a portion of proceeds from events are dedicated to community charities.
Tickets to the Gecko Ball are set to go on sale July 4, and organizers say it sells out every year. To receive updates, including ticket sales announcements, visit the Gecko Ball Facebook page at www.facebook.com/geckoball.
