How to Tell When a Turkey Is Done

Not sure just how hot that bird should be? We've got you covered!

As those Thanksgiving turkeys go into ovens throughout the Tampa Bay area, it’s likely that nagging question of just how to tell when the bird is fully cooked will arise.

Relax! We’ve got you covered!

A turkey that is fully cooked should have an internal temperature of 165 degrees, according to FoodSafety.gov. There’s no resting time involved, so the temperature can be checked as soon as the bird comes out of the oven.

Keep in mind, cooking times may vary based on the size of the bird and whether stuffing is used or not. If stuffing is used, its internal temperature should also be 165 degrees.

If you happen to be serving up a ham instead of a turkey, it’s recommended a precooked piece of meat reach an internal temperature of 140 degrees.
