Sidewalk Coming Soon to Clymer Park

Contractors will be laying the groundwork soon for a public art initiative at Clymer Park in Gulfport.

Gulfport City Councilors unanimously agreed to accept a bid for $36,000 from John M. Dobrzeniecki, Inc for 1,000 linear feet of a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk at Clymer Park during Tuesday night's meeting.

The winding walkway would be located on the west side of the park, extending from 23rd Ave S to 26th Ave S., according to the current design.

When finished, the $100,000 project will include a walkway, benches, lighting, public art, and possibly walkway ballards.

The project is approved and budgeted in the present fiscal year's budget with funding coming from the City of Gulfport's Penny For Pinellas Funds.

The goal of the project is to invest in public art and provide a safe route from the North side of the city and the Pinellas Trail to the Waterfront District.

The final decision as to the selection, acquisition, allocation, display, placement and location of works or art will be up to the council for final approval, according to O"Reilly.

Last year Clymer Park received a large, colorful, one-of-a-kind art installation - a new welcome sign created by local artist Tom Pitzen. This latest project will build on the city's dedication to public art.
