The issue of noise has been an ongoing problem in St. Petersburg for some time. Many think it is a down town issue, but the reality is there are noise problems in a number of spots in St. Pete.

In many ways the 50 plus square miles of St. Petersburg are now ruled by the 15 blocks of the downtown renaissance.

As residents all over St. Pete deal with noise issues the overriding concern of the Mayor is the down town and how to protect the bars and clubs.

Currently, the Noise Ordinance is buried in the Public Services and Infrastructure Committee where it is passed around like a football in a bad game. As long as those opposed to any control of noise can use Mayor Kriseman and Council member Kornell to keep the issue off the City Council agenda not much will happen.

The real question is will the City Council get its eyes off downtown and focus for a moment on the quality of life for everyone in St. Pete.

It is way past time for the cooler heads on City Council to put an end to the political game being played by the St. Pete Chamber and downtown interests and take a stand for all of St. Pete.
