It's Wednesday, August 7. Here's "5 things" you need to know today in Gulfport.

Look Out!

Stetson University College of Law is offering a free Elder Fraud Awareness Seminar today at 1 p.m. at the Gulfport Senior Center. Come out to learn more about consumer fraud and scams aimed at the elderly.

Attention Teens

Looking for a job? Want to sharpen your interview skills to be the top pick for employers? Need to spruce up your resume for college? Then sign-up for the Teen Financial Literacy and Job Skills Program at the Gulfport Public Library Wednesday, August 7th @ 1 pm and Friday August 9th @ 1pm! It's free and we will have PIZZA! (Parents, spread the word!!) Contact Cailey at 893-1074 or cklasson@mygulfport.us for all the info. Special thanks to Cailey for adding this free event in our calendar!

Be an Explorer!

The Gulfport Police Explorers Post 995 are always looking for more members! The Explorers work with teens between 14 and 19 years old who want to learn about jobs in law enforcement. In addition to training in crime scene investigations, defensive tactics and tutoring in class work, the Explorers provide support for the Gulfport Police with additional security at community events. For more information about joining - contact the Chief Advisor Officer Jennifer Crowson at jcrowson@mygulfport.us.

Powerball Fever

The payoff is up to $425 million for tonight's Powerball drawing. For folks thinking of buying a ticket at the same Publix where Gloria Mackenzie bought the ticket that won the $590 million jackpot, here are 11 things more likely to happen than winning Powerball. But, if you still need to get a ticket here are nearby locations selling tickets on the Florida Lottery website.

Grab an Umbrella!

We have a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms today. Looks like we're also looking at a high of 91 with heat index values as high as 100. Be sure to have an umbrella handy - you never know when Mother Nature will send rain our way!
