$2.5 Million For Polk Residents Behind On Rent Due To COVID-19
Polk County residents who were financially impacted by COVID-19 and behind on rent and mortgage can apply for funds to get caught up.
POLK COUNTY, FL — Polk County residents who are behind on rent and mortgage notes due to layoffs from the coronavirus pandemic could get caught up with help from a $2.5 million CARES Act.
Applications opened Tuesday morning and will close Thurs., Dec. 31 at 5 p.m.
In order to qualify for the Polk County CDBG Mortage and Rental Assistance Program, the guidelines provided by county officials are listed below:

- A current resident of Polk County (excluding those within the city of Lakeland, which has its own program and separate application process)
- Have a loss or reduction of income, loss of employment or health related issues due to COVID-19
- Currently delinquent on rent or mortgage payment
- Current gross household income is below 80 percent of area median income based on household size
This program will pay up to six months of delinquent rent or mortgage payments, the county's website said.
Documents needed to apply for assistance:

- Florida driver license for applicant and co-applicant
- Proof of loss due to COVID-19
- Current lease or mortgage statement in applicant's/co-applicant's name
- Current utility bill (water or electric)
- Current bank statement
- Most recent pay stub or unemployment letter
- W-9 form from your landlord, property manager or mortgage company
