300 Jobs To Fill In Polk County And Plant City Through Agency

POLK COUNTY, FL —A Lakeland temp agency is taking the "temp" out of temporary jobs, and finding permanent, full-time employment for the majority of its job-seeking candidates.

Spherion Staffing & Recruiting is looking to fill 300 open job positions with business clients throughout Polk County and in Plant City. Some of the jobs range from warehouses, beverage centers, data process centers, administrative offices, heavy assembly and general labor. Plant City is where they currently have a lot of heavy assembly jobs to fill. Some of those positions require the candidate to have a forklift license, while other positions are entry level.

"I would say usually 90 to 95 percent of the business we have, our client's goal is to truly find the right candidate to join them full-time," Lindsey Mccain, business development manager, said in a Patch interview. "With the market being a little bit tough now, we're a well-oiled machine with five people on our team, compared to your single HR person going through applicants on top of every responsibility they have."

Some people might think that temp agency's don't have the connections to find high pay-scale careers for qualified candidates. However, Mccain said Spherion has about 40 business clients that are hiring for pay levels that range from entry to experienced and senior level.

"You don't have to have experience, and we work with such a wide variety of customers," Mccain said. "I think some people don't understand a temporary agency. They see us as that. We have found a lot of full-time, long-term opportunities that aren't just your entry-level labor jobs."

Spherion has seen people they've placed on a manufacturing line 10 years ago be promoted to plant managers.

Mccain said that even if they can't match someone with a job, they are a resource to point a job-seeker in the right direction. The recruitment staff also helps with writing resumes.
