87 Veterans Will Be Flown From Lakeland To D.C. Tuesday

LAKELAND, FL — Flight to Honor will fly 87 selected Mission No. 6 veterans from Lakeland International Airport to Washington, D.C., Tuesday, for a one-day visit to see memorials that honor their service to the United States.

The D.C. community will have an opportunity to express their gratitude to the veterans for their service. These veterans served during Korea and Vietnam, according to the Polk County Veterans Council.

The flight will depart Tuesday morning and return in the evening. Everyone is welcome to attend the Welcome Home event. It will take place on the tarmac at the terminal at 8 p.m. when the plane lands. The community can start to arrive at 7 p.m.

Flight to Honor Polk was established in January 2015 and is based in Polk County. However, any eligible veteran is welcome to apply for Flight to Honor flight. Priority is given to those with severe medical conditions followed by World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans.
