Crash Throws Motorcyclist Into Fence, Kills Driver: Police

A Lakeland man died over the weekend when his motorcycle hit a curb and threw him into a fence near North Lincoln Avenue, officers said.

LAKELAND, FL — A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon when he was thrown from his bike on a Lakeland street, police said.

Darry Darnell Townsend, a Lakeland resident, drove his 2018 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on North Lincoln Avenue when he lost control of the bike at 4:04 p.m., according to officers with the Lakeland Police Department. When he hit a curb, he was thrown into a chain-link fence.

The victim died at Lakeland Regional Health, detectives said.

The roadway was shut down for three hours for the investigation.
