Debris shut down the southbound lanes of State Road 33 Friday after a truck apparently struck the I-4 overpass

LAKELAND, FL — Debris shut down the southbound lanes of State Road 33 Friday after a truck apparently struck the I-4 overpass, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The incident happened shortly before 11:30 a.m.
"An unknown heavy truck or commercial vehicle traveling southbound on SR-33 was transporting a load, most likely heavy equipment, that was over height," explained Sgt. Steve Gaskins of the Florida Highway Patrol.

"As the vehicle passed under the I-4 overpass, the load struck the overpass causing damage to the roadway," he said. "FHP Troopers currently have the southbound lanes of SR-33 closed for the next several hours as crews work to inspect the overpass and remove concrete debris from the roadway."
