Twenty-one restaurants out of 234 in Polk County failed first inspections in the last 30 days, according to the state.
POLK COUNTY, FL —Twenty-one-restaurants out of 213 in Polk County didn't pass its first inspections during the last 30 days, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation said Wednesday.
Six out of the 21 that didn't pass had between 11 and 16 violations. Listed below are the Polk County restaurants cited for the most violations. The high priority items are included from the inspector's notes:
Shanghai Express, 2914 S. Florida Avenue, Lakeland, had 16 violations March 9

- High Priority—Wiping cloth solution exceeding the maximum concentration allowed stored in a location that could result in the cross contamination of food, equipment, utensils, linens, single-service, or single-use articles. Tested at 200ppm. Manager remade and tested at 100ppm. Also, employee's personal food items stored above shelled eggs and sauces to be served to customers.
Magic Wok, 2129 Circle 540 A, Lakeland, had 12 violations Feb. 24
- High Priority —Shell eggs held at room temperature with an ambient air temperature greater than 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
- High Priority—Time/temperature control for safety food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook line garlic in oil (70°F - Cold Holding).

Jin Jin Kitchen, 1239 Ariana Street, Lakeland, had 12 violations Feb. 22
- High Priority— Dented cans present. See stop sale.
- High Priority— Employee washed hands with no soap.
- High Priority —Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed 1 rodent dropping in mop sink area on table next to tools.
- High Priority— Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with food. Pack of cigarettes on cook line.
- High Priority—Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with food. Bottle of equipment cleaner next to jar of banana peppers in storage area.
- High Priority— Toxic substance/chemical stored in food preparation area with potential to cause cross contamination. Bottle of cleaner on prep table next to clean pizza pans.

- High Priority —Dented cans present. See stop sale. Manager voluntarily discarded product
- Intermediate — Commercially processed ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food opened and held more than 24 hours not properly date marked after opening. Open milk in walk in cooler.
- Intermediate —No soap provided at handwash sink. By back prep table.
- High Priority—Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Raw chicken stored over cooked shrimp in walk-in cooler.
- Intermediate — Ready-to-eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared onsite and held more than 24 hours not properly date marked. Walk-in cooler cooked shrimp, egg rolls, cooked chicken pieces, noodle, etc.
- Intermediate — Paper towel dispenser at handwash sink not working/unable to dispense paper towels.
- Intermediate —Front Handwash sink not accessible for employee use due to being blocked by fan, boxes and personal items.
