George Jones, Tammy Wynette’s Former Home Up For Sale

LAKELAND, FL — While the epic romance between country music legends Tammy Wynette and George Jones didn’t exactly last, the home they shared together in Lakeland endures. And, so does the unique guitar-shaped pool that graces its backyard.

The famous couple’s former home is on the market with an asking price of just under $1.5 million. Built in 1902, the plantation-style home features more than 5,500 square feet of living space and its own four-stall horse barn on seven acres.

Jones reportedly bought the home in the late 1960s to serve as a vacation spot. After he wed Wynette in 1969, the two made Lakeland their full-time home for a while and also created some colorful press during their stay in town.

Wynette mentioned in her autobiography waking up in the home early one morning to find George gone. Worried, she got into her car and drove to the nearest bar. Wynette found her riding lawn mower outside and George inside, according to the Lakeland Ledger.

The couple’s home has been on the market a few times over the past couple years. The Ledger said it listed for $2.3 million in 2011.
