Help Name Orlando Magic’s Lakeland D-League Team

Fans are being asked to come up with names for the Orlando Magic's D-League team that will soon play in Lakeland.

LAKELAND, FL — The Orlando Magic is hoping its fans have the ability to pull off a little wizardry of their own. The NBA franchise has kicked off an official contest that calls on basketball lovers to help name is D-League affiliate that’s set to start playing in Lakeland during the 2017-18 season.

To make conjuring up ideas worthwhile for fans, there’s a prize or two on the line, as well.

“The first person to submit the selected winning name will receive two season tickets for the inaugural 2017-18 season,” the Magic website said. The first 10 participants in the contest will also receive a pair of opening night tickets.

The Orlando Magic announced its purchase of the Erie BayHawks back in December. The franchise will relocate for play at The Lakeland Center. The purchase makes the Magic the 17th NBA team to own and operate its own D-League affiliate.

The naming contest is open through Jan. 20. Fans can enter their ideas online via the Magic’s website.

Season ticket deposits for the D-League team’s play in Lakeland are now being accepted. Fans are asked to call 407-447-2210 or visit the Magic website to find out more.

The NBA’s D-League season involved 50 regular season games, along with post-season play. The season kicks off in November and runs through April. The Magic’s team will play all 24 of its upcoming home games in Lakeland.
