Hurricane Irma: Polk Orders Curfew For Monday Night

The curfew will be in order overnight to protect people in Polk County after damage caused by Hurricane Irma.

BARTOW, FL – With damage caused by Hurricane Irma just starting to be assessed in earnest, Polk County ordered another curfew for Monday night to help protect its residents and evacuees.

The countywide curfew order, which came from Sheriff Grady Judd and County Manager Jim Freeman, will be in affect beginning at midnight and ending on 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

“Be safe, everyone!” Judd said in his Facebook post about the curfew.

Exclusions to the Polk County curfew include:

  • Essential services, such as fire, police, emergency medical services, hospital services (including patient transportation), utility emergency repairs and emergency calls by physicians and other appropriate emergency relief activities
  • County and municipal emergency management personnel
  • On-duty military personnel
  • Media personnel
  • People traveling to and from work

Violations of the order is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 for each offense.
