Lakeland High School Police Academy Accepting Applications
If you're a teenager interested in a law enforcement career, applications are open for the five-day summer police academy training camp.

LAKELAND, FL — If you're a local teenager, at least 16 years old, the Lakeland Police Department's High School Police Academy is accepting applications from youth who want to learn more about becoming a police officer.
The High School Police Academy is scheduled June 14 to June 18, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trainees will receive training in the following, according to Lakeland police:
- SWAT
- K-9
- Crime scene
- Defensive tactics
- Traffic enforcement
- Demos
- Physical training
- Team building
Spots are limited for this training, and the deadline to register is May 27. Police skills building will take place at the Lakeland PD Training Center, 3131 Centurion Dr., Lakeland. Potential attendees must meet the following requirements:

- Must be at least 16 years old, and starting the 11th, 12th grade or recent graduation.
- No arrests
- No out-of-school suspensions in the last year
- Must maintain a "C" average or better
- Must be willing to participate in all physical and academic activities
- Must be interested in a law enforcement career
- Receive parental or legal guardian approval to attend
- Complete and submit the application at LakelandPDHighSchoolAcademy
