Over 100 Reported Cases Of COVID-19 Across Polk County Schools

LAKELAND, FL — There are already 109 reported coronavirus cases within the Polk County Public Schools district that have been reported by the Polk County Public Schools' Coronavirus Cases and Communications website.

The first case reported by the district was on the first day of school, Aug. 24, at Boone Middle School.

From Saturday to Sunday, school officials said there were 11 new cases of coronavirus reported and those reporting schools included Kathleen Middle, Lena Vista Elementary, Stambaugh Middle, Garner Elementary, Frostproof Elementary and Winston Academy.

The district's website said students who were participating in face-to-face learning who tested positive for coronavirus must quarantine and use online learning until they can return to campus. Students who tested positive for coronavirus and were already participating in Campus eSchool or Polk Virtual, will continue their online classes.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and other privacy protection laws, prohibits the district from disclosing any personally identifiable information about who tested positive for coronavirus.
