Students Help Polk Seniors By Harvesting Collards And Mustards

AUBURNDALE, FL — More than 300 senior citizens throughout Polk County who were in need of nutritious food received mustard and collard greens Tuesday that was harvested by students in Auburndale High School's Future Farmers of America (FFA) program, a Polk County Public Schools District news release said.

This project was part of Meals on Wheels of Polk County. The students harvested more than 250 pounds of vegetables to donate.

Kimberly Shaske, the FFA advisor at Auburndale High, told Polk County Public Schools District that the program intends to continue its partnership with Meals on Wheels by growing spring crops that will provide additional fresh produce.
