Wiregrass Ranch Varsity Volleyball Coach demands effort while adding fun too

The Wiregrass Ranch Jr. Varsity Volleyball team was in action last night at Zephyrhills High School facing the ZHS Varsity team. The Bulls came out on top with a 3-0 win with scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-14.

WRHS Head Volleyball Coach Michelle Davis stated that the season as a whole has gone well. Before tonight's win the team had a tough loss to Mitchell, a very strong team. WRHS is a level 8 school and competes with solid teams from Plant, Wharton and Steinbrenner in the district.

The team did very well tonight. With the first set "I got creative". As a surprise, the girls that showed up early started. They were Emilee Adams #3, Hanna Sifford #15, Sara Harvey #9, Alexis Pryor #6, Riley Strenta #4 and Jaizah Anderson #2. This was the first time the girls played together. The first two players arriving got brownies. The remaining WRHS varsity lineup consists of Llanek Davis #5, Elanny Breton #7, Destanie Aydt #8, Zoria Telfare #11, Caroline Eichelberger #12, Alyson Clark #16 and Stephanie Figueroa #99.

Coach Davis stated that any of the players could start on any team in the area. The team consists of all juniors and seniors with one sophomore. WRHS is unique in that it has two JV teams. With Title 9 at play, the school encourages and supports girls sports as a way to balance the number of boys playing at the high school level.

Coach Davis is from Virginia Beach and played beach volleyball as there was no indoor play. Coach Davis encourages all her players to play beach volleyball as outdoor play improves indoor play.
