AUBURNDALE, FL — A Clearwater woman was found slumped on the steering wheel of her red Volkswagen Beetle by deputies early Friday morning in Auburndale, Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

Officers noticed the Volkswagen's back tire parked on a curb near the entrance of the Hamptons Golf and Country Club about 2:30 a.m. The car's engine was running, investigators said. As police spoke to the woman, 50-year-old Lee Anne Huff, who sat in the driver seat, they noticed her eyes were bloodshot and watery. Huff had a slurred speech, according to the affidavit.

Detectives asked the suspect for her driver's license, and she gave them a credit card. She told authorities, "It was f***ing awesome," when they asked her how much she had to drink, according to the arrest report. She swayed back and forth when she got out of her, police said.

An open can of White Claw Hard Seltzer was seen by officers sitting in the car's center console cup holder. Huff told deputies she is Fifth grade math and science teacher at Leila Davis Elementary School, 2630 Landmark Dr., Clearwater.

"Teachers should be setting positive examples for their students and the community," Sheriff Grady Judd said. "Drinking and driving is the opposite of that. There is never an excuse to drink and drive. Please, take advantage of the many resources out there, and don't drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs."
