Driver Drove Around Railroad Crossbars, Hit By Train: FHP

Authorities say there was heavy damage to the car, but no injuries.

DADE CITY, FL — Pasco County Fire Rescue responded to a train versus car accident Tuesday at the intersection of Old Lakeland Highway and Melrose Avenue in Dade City.

A News 8 report reported Florida Highway Patrol as saying the woman, Tina Sampson, 58, tried to avoid the train by driving around the lowering crossbars.

The train hit the left back side of her car, which spun out and came to a rest on the south side of Melrose Avenue. The train came to a stop about a mile later.

Train traffic was stopped in the area.

Pasco Fire Rescue said there was heavy damage to the car, about $10,000 of damage, the report said.

There were no injuries reported.

Patch is awaiting response from Florida Highway Patrol.
