The Land O’ Lakes Rowing Club will host a Row and Drive event on Saturday, April 20 at Laird Park in East Lake Park-Lake Padgett Estates to benefit HPH Hospice. The Learn to Row/Sculling clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.
“We will do some dry land drills, then move to shallow water drills, then to actually going in the boat with some experienced rowers,” head coach Mary Jane Kranendonk said. “My master's women and high school kids will help me with the clinic and also help in the boats.”

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a car show will feature classic cars as well as a golf cart division.
“We will sell T-shirts, and there will be a silent auction as well as some drawings for prizes,” Kranendonk said. “There will be a memory table for anyone who wants to show a picture of a special someone they have lost or write a note on the table about that person.”
There will be activities for the kids such as volleyball, kickball and face painting. Smiles Catering will be on hand selling food.
All donations will be given to HPH Hospice’s Children’s Assistance Fund in memory of Dan Voelker, Kranendonk said.
Voelker was a longtime resident of Lake Padgett Estates who passed away in October 2012.
The event is sponsored by the rowing club, Bay Area Watersports and Planet H2O Sportswear and Signs.
